Volunteers Required!

Are you able to lend a hand?

Anybody reading this is likely to enjoy their rugby and is happy to support the Greens at all levels. This is great and no doubt the players greatly appreciate your support. But, Caithness rugby is not simply about what happens on the pitch. The Club would not exist if it weren’t for a small army of volunteers working hard behind the scenes.

There are those who serve on the senior and junior committees undertaking a range of roles including chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer, membership secretary, communications (updating the website, Facebook pages and newsletters), sponsorship, advertising, fund raising, 100 Club, merchandise sales, coach co-ordination, schools’ liaison and child protection.

Then there are the individual coaches and managers, not just for the 1st XV team but also 2nd XV, U18, U16, U15, S1/2 and Mini/Micro teams, referees and others either driving or organising transport and accommodation for away games and festivals.

Our pitches are the envy of most visiting teams but to keep them in pristine condition takes a lot of time and effort including ground maintenance, rolling and cutting the grass throughout the year and lining the pitches prior to each game. And, when the game’s in progress, there are the commentator, video operator, scorer, programme/raffle ticket sellers and ball boys and girls.

During and after home games we all enjoy the hospitality available in the Clubhouse. But, that doesn’t run itself either. There are those responsible for preparing and serving food, stocking and serving drink, washing up, taking bookings for private lets, legal compliance (testing fire systems and equipment, for example), maintenance and cleaning.

By now, you’ll be getting the picture. Whether player or spectator you owe an immense debt of gratitude to all these people. But, they’re getting tired of having to do it alone when they know there are so many folks out there who could lend a hand. If you’re not already volunteering for the Club now is the time to get involved. Just a few hours a year is all we ask; if you can do more, so much the better.
