Caithness U16s played Aberdeen Wanderers U16s at Millbank on Sunday 16th November. This game followed hard on the heels of a one-sided victory over Nairn Academy in the semi final of the Brewin Dolphin Regional Shield. The cup game had been played on a firm pitch with good overhead conditions, however the Wanderers game was the exact opposite, as the game was played on a gluepot of a pitch at Millbank.
This meant that different tactics were required, as the wide expansive game of the previous week had to be abandoned for a much more direct approach, which doesn’t really suit the Caithness team. The game was pretty scrappy with a lot of handling errors, and the breakdown situation, after a tackle, was a bit of a mess but the boys stuck to their task and ran out convincing winners 42-7.
The Caithness team is currently bolstered by two boys from Shetland and two from Ross Sutherland as neither of those clubs can field teams, and all four of those players added significantly to the cause. This gives the local team a bigger squad to pick from.
The boys are now looking forward to the Regional Brewin Dolphin Cup Final which is being played in Thurso on December 3rd.
