Report Written by : James Miller

On a very warm and sunny day in Invergordon, Caithness took to the field for their 2nd game of the season and faced a far tougher challenge in the early league leaders. Once again we had call offs due to football commitments from 3 of the backs meaning a shuffling of players and some new positions for quite a few of the them.

Caithness started at a high tempo with some good continuity and deserved to go into the lead with tries from Jamie Mowat and Michael Macgregor (playing his 1st game on the wing and showing some real pace and finishing, not bad for a 2nd row). But after this strong start they relaxed and Ross came back into the game with a great solo try from their strong running centre who has always been a standout for them. Caithness then added a 3rd try by Jordan Miller.

The game then became scrappy with Caithness giving away far too many penalties especially for offside, despite numerous warnings from the referee and their coaches it kept Ross in the game in the middle period, and put a lot of unneeded pressure on the Caithness defence, which to be fair stood up and repelled a barrage of attacks from the home side. The home sides spirit was dented after a series of tap and goes were stopped close to the line and broken after a huge tackle by Aidan Sinclair which stopped the onrushing player in his tracks, Caithness grew in confidence after this and finished the game the stronger running in 2 tries from Max Paul and another from Jordan Miller for a well deserved win.

Special mention must go to the boys who played out of position and by and large did well, with Michael Macgregor being voted The man of the match by the opposition coaches, who were shocked he had never played on the wing before.

Teamwork was better this week and will be needed with Highland up next Sunday.
